Family & Childcare · 6 min

Childcare can cost more than your rent.

The government help is real, but it's spread over several schemes. Most parents only hear about them by accident.

a month for a full-time baby place in many areas.

The 10-second version

  • 30 hrsof free childcare a week for working parents, from 9 months old.
  • £2 in £8is added by the government with Tax-Free Childcare.
  • £60kis where Child Benefit starts being clawed back. Claim anyway.

The government pays a quarter of your nursery bill.

With Tax-Free Childcare, every £8 you pay in gets a £2 top-up, up to £2,000 per child a year.
